Orbit Quickstart

System Requirements:

  • Orbit requires an iPhone running iOS 17+ 

  • For Apple Watch users who are providing continuous heart rate readings, WatchOS 10+ (Series 4+) is required​​​​

  • Get started now by downloading Orbit for free on the Apple App Store

How to get started - Sign up & login

  1. Select Sign Up - to create a new account. (Existing users select 'Log In'). Note: Once you have succesfully logged in, you should only need to enter your password once as it will be saved.

  2. Account creation - create a nickname (username); provide your email and create a password; check the box for privacy & terms acceptance.

  3. Confirmation code - You will be sent a confirmation code to the email address you provided - please check your junk mail folder. Please note that the code will expire in 24hrs.

  4. After you successfully login, you must accept Apple's permissions to give the app permission to read your heart rate and record it to workouts. If your heart rate is not displaying it is likely you didn't accept all permissions. To check, on your iPhone go to:  Settings > Health App > Data Access & Devices > click on the Orbit app > Turn on all (read/write) for heart and workout.​ After granting permissions, completely shut down the app and relaunch.

Apple Watch Login

  1. If you own an Apple Watch with WatchOS 10+/Series 4+, you can also use the Orbit app to continuously stream your heart rate and send emojis to event organizers.

  2. The Orbit app will automatically download and install on your Apple Watch.

  3. When you open the Orbit app on your watch you will also be prompted to login. Make sure you use the same login and password that you used on your iPhone during signup. Note: Once you have succesfully logged in, you should only need to enter your password once as it will be saved. Tip: you can use your iPhone as an extended keyboard for your watch. Make sure your iPhone keyboard notifications are turned on: go to iPhone settings > Notifications > scroll down to "Apple Watch Keyboard > make sure "Allow notifications" is turned on.

  4. After you successfully login, you must accept Apple's permissions to give the app permission to read your heart rate and record it to workouts. If your heart rate is not displaying it is likely you didn't accept all permissions. To check, on your Watch go to: Settings > Health > Apps and Services > Orbit > Turn on all (read/write) for heart and workout.​  After granting permissions,  completely shut down the app (double click the crown, swipe left and hit the X) and relaunch.

Sending data to an event

Apple Watch Users​​

  1. After you successfully login, you will see your 'My Channels' page

  2. Select the name of your chosen Channel

  3. Select the name of your chosen Event 

  4. Select your streaming type e.g in-person or online 

  5. Passcode - some events require a passcode to participate

  6. You can now select the 'Stream' button to send your heart rate to the event​
